Professional Learning Networks (PLNs) are very important for an educator to be a part of, so that he or she can continue to grow. I have recently joined the following PLNs. I plan on making a conscious effort to learn and participate in these communities. As I become more comfortable I will begin to contribute to them as well. I have provided links to the Networks in case there is an interest in them too.
International Society for Technology Education (www.iste.org/ ) Twitter (https://twitter.com/) follow me https://twitter.com/Dgrey1415 Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (http://www.tepsa.org/?) As I have observed and discussed with others their professional learning networks I did not give value where value was due and that is to the connections made through Facebook. I felt that the PLNs had to be from a Professional Organization to truly be considered a PLN, but I have come to realize to is more about connecting with Professionals in your field and not necessarily an organization. As I started my journey for my Masters we were encouraged by our professor to establish and connect through Facebook. I joined the group and every group created for each class as we progressed through our courses. I would participate at times but I mostly stayed in the background as an observer. As the cohort began to go our separate paths and the Facebook group got a little smaller I began to become more of a participant. I began sharing my thoughts and things that I have found in the classes because I wanted to make sure everyone was aware and I hoped that if I missed some vital information someone else would share their insights. This revelation has helped me better understand the importance of PLNs and being an active participant and not just an observer. I still have a lot of room to grow in this area but I am on a path that will help me become more active in my PLNs. The benefit of active participation is well beyond what I could imagine and I cannot wait to continue to grow and connect with my cohort. Growing with others is a great way to stay motivated as we continue to move forward.
